Macon County State Representative Bill Mitchell is ready to go “nuclear” when he looks at the state’s employment patterns.
He is concerned with an August jobs report that shows the state lost 4400 manufacturing jobs in August, the worst month in that regard since 2009. He says the state shouldn’t place it’s immediate focus on trying to land new jobs.
He wants lawmakers to save jobs connected directly and indirectly to the Clinton nuclear power plant, which is scheduled to close without proposed state incentives….
“Politicians worry a hell of a lot less about their jobs and much more about the jobs of the people that they represent,” said Mitchell. “The big issue for Central Illinois is of course the Clinton power plant. The General assembly has to take action before the end of this year to save 700 good paying jobs.”
Exelon Corporation has announced its plans to close the DeWitt County facility by June 1st, 2017.
