NORMAL – Practical, humane, and fair – those are three guiding principles needed when discussing immigration reform, according to Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Tammy Duckworth.

“So to take children who are born in the United States, who are two years old, and deport their parents because their parents are here undocumented is no humane,” Duckworth said.

Duckworth spoke at a forum this week north of Normal hosted by the Illinois Farm Bureau.

“You’re going to need to go to the end of the line. You need to face fees and penalties to get into the system,” said Duckworth. “And then I also think that you need to learn English.”

Duckworth faces Republican incumbent Mark Kirk in the November election.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
