While you shop for holiday gifts, others are looking for presents without going into stores.
Bloomington Police spokeswoman Sara Mayer tells WJBC’s Susan Saunders says some crooks are finding loot in the parking lot. “They see something, smash out the window and take your ID or purse,” said Mayer. “They’ll go the bank and cash checks, and after that they’ll try to steal your identity so it doesn’t stop there.”
Bloomington Police Chief Brendan Heffner warns against tempting thieves by leaving items in plain sight.
“This is the time of year after Thanksgiving when people are shopping and buying gifts, and you can’t be lazy,” said Heffner. “You need to put them in the trunk.”
Mayer says groups moving through several states may be responsible for some of the latest break-ins.
