BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington has a new comprehensive plan to guide the city’s development that the Planning Commission has been working on for the last 18 months.
“It is a 20-year look at what this community might look like physically in terms of redevelopment, development and preservation,” Community Development Director Tom Dabareiner said. “It’s based on economic trends, market trends as well as social trends.”
Approval of the plan passed almost unanimously. The lone vote against it was from Alderman Kevin Lower.
“I see this as a template of unabated socialism,” Lower said. “It is very, very limiting in its scope. We’re limiting many businesses and folks on the periphery (of Bloomington) from encouraging them to invest in our community.”
Mayor Tari Renner said the council will likely split into groups of three to figure out how to implement the plan.
