BLOOMINGTON – McLean County health officials report a third mosquito pool has tested positive for West Nile Virus.

The positive sample was collected west of Bloomington. The previous positives samples came from east of Bloomington and rural Ellsworth. McLean County has also had two birds test positive for West Nile this year.

Health officials recommend limiting your time outdoors between dusk and dawn and to make precautionary measures such as wearing protective clothing and insect repellent. Also they say you should repair and replace worn or torn screens on doors and windows and eliminate stagnant, shallow water to prevent mosquitoes from breeding.

No human cases have been reported this year.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
