DEERFIELD, Ill. – The Chief Executive Officer of Caterpillar has now been voted as the Chairman of the Board.

The Caterpillar Board of Directors announced Thursday CEO Jim Umpleby has been elected to the new role effective immediately. Umpleby took over as CEO from Doug Oberhelman in January of 2017. At that time, it was decided he would not take the reigns as board chairman. That position went to non-executive Dave Calhoun in April of last year.

Umpleby has served as a board member since his appointment to CEO. Calhoun will remain on the board as Presiding Director.
