BLOOMINGTON – The Democratic candidate trying to unseat Republican Cong. Rodney Davis in the 13th District said she’s not ready to back House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s bid to again become Speaker of the House.

Campaigning in Bloomington on the eve of the election, Betsy Dirksen Londrigan said if she’s elected and Democrats win a House majority, she’ll come back to the district to survey whether constituents think Pelosi should again be chosen as speaker.

“I think that the people in the 13th District would want to weigh in on that. That’s a big decision, and I would like to hear what they have to say.”

Londrigan worked the phones late Monday afternoon in Downtown Bloomington, joining County Clerk candidate Nikita Richards and Bloomington Mayor Tari Renner in a get-out-the-vote effort.

Londrigan said she feels “strong” as the campaign comes to an end.

“We have left it all on the field,” she said.

“We’ve put all those miles on my car listening to people. They’ve given me a clear directive about what they expect, and what they’re asking me to do. They’re asking me to protect their health care. They’re asking me to protect their Social Security and Medicare,” said Londrigan.

Londrigan expects an unprecedented turnout from college students and other energized young people will lift her over the top.

“I think you’re going to see a lot of energy from young people that you haven’t seen in the past, because they’re ready to return some sanity and humanity to our national discourse and politics,” Londrigan said.

Londrigan and Davis are vying to represent a district that includes a large part of central and western Bloomington-Normal.
