State golf: Saints, Schrock, Barger take titles

BLOOMINGTON – Top state hardware is headed to local trophy cases after Saturday’s state high school golf championships.

Central Catholic captured the Class 1A girls team title in the 36-hole event played at Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur. The Saints were led by Katie Steinman, who finished at 8-over-par tied for sixth with Carolyn Pacocha of Eureka.

Dani Grace Schrock of Pontiac took the Class 1A individual championship with a 2-over-par score while sister Ali Schrock of Pontiac finished tied for third with a 4-over-par two-day total with Allison Pacocha of Eureka.

Bloomington’s T.J. Barger fired a 3-under-par 18-hole round at Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State University to take the individual crown by three strokes in Class 2A boys play.

In Class 3A boys at The Den at Fox Creek in Bloomington, U-High finished tied for seventh place in the team race.

Play in all three boys classes in Bloomington-Normal was reduced by weather to one 18-hole round on Saturday.

Central Catholic High School will host a celebration for the champion Saints at 12:15 p.m. Sunday in the school auditorium, followed by a cake reception in the school cafeteria.
