Redbirds land 3 on Valley women’s hoops teams

NORMAL – Illinois State has placed three Redbirds on the Missouri Valley Conference women’s basketball squads, including a first-teamer.

Coaches and media representatives voted Hannah Green to the Valley’s first team, while Simone Goods received honorable mention. Paige Saylor was named to the All-Freshman and All-Defensive teams.

Green, a senior from Santa Clarita, California and a second-year Redbird, averages 12.8 points and six rebounds per game. She averages two blocks per game to lead the Valley.

Goods is in her first season at Illinois State after transferring from Kirkwood Community College in Iowa. The 6-2 junior from Omaha leads the Redbirds with 13.6 points per game and averages six rebounds per contest. She has been Valley Newcomer of the Week three times and Player of the Week once.

Martinsville, Ind. native Saylor leads the Valley with just under 38 minutes per game and is the conference’s steals leader at 2.5 thefts per contest.

The Redbirds have the sixth seed in the Hoops in the Heartland conference tournament in Moline and will face third seed Northern Iowa at 8:30 Friday evening. The game can be heard on 1230 AM and WJBC.com at 8:20.
