Piatt County teen dies in bicycle crash

CERRO GORDO – A Piatt County teen was killed Tuesday night when the bicycle he was riding collided with a car.

Illinois State Police said the bicyclist, 14-year-old Ashton Brandenburg of LaPlace, was pedaling north in the southbound lane of Illinois Route 32 south of Cerro Gordo shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday when his bike was hit by a car driven by a 20-year-old LaPlace woman.

The teen was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver wasn’t hurt. Her name hasn’t been released. No charges have been filed. Police say it’s an ongoing investigation.
