BLOOMINGTON – WJBC has learned that Central Catholic is expected to name former Normal Community football coach Hud Venerable its new athletic director.
Venerable would replace Doug Atkins who previously announced his retirement effective June 30. He had served as CCHS’s athletic director for 11 years.
Venerable coached at NCHS for 14 seasons and led the Ironmen to a state championship in 2006 and compiled a 126-37 record in 14 seasons. He later served as coach and athletic director at Lincoln Way-Central where he posted a 9-10 record in two seasons before retiring in 2014.
Venerable had planned to serve as an assistant on Norm Eash’s football staff at the Illinois Wesleyan before landing the Central job.
A formal announcement is expected in the coming days.
