Marilyn Shoemaker, 77, of Colfax, passed away with her family and friends by her side at 10:59 a.m., Oct. 29, at Advocate BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.

Her funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax.

Burial will be in Wiley Cemetery, Colfax.

Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, also at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Davis Kerber American Legion Post Auxiliary, Colfax, Eastern McLean County Ambulance Associating, or Faith Fellowship Church, Heyworth.

Marilyn was born Sept. 11, 1939 in Paxton, the daughter of Ivan and Wilhelmina Walters Brucker.

She married Dale Shoemaker on Sept. 5, 1959. He passed away Jan. 13, 1978.

Surviving are her children, Marc (Shebet) Shoemaker of Colfax, Kimberly (Brian) Harris of Colfax, Marla (Rich) Lund of Sterling, and Brent (Stacy) Shoemaker of Heyworth; grandchildren, Weylin (Ashley) Harris, Lucas and Calvin Harris, Taylor and Cody Lund, Jessica, Erica, Seth and Jacob Shoemaker; five great-grandchildren; brother, Wayne Brucker of Anchor.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Barry Shoemaker, and three brothers.

Marilyn worked at as a secretary for A&W Dynamometer, Colfax and then retired after 20 years for Casey’s General Store, Colfax.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Anchor, Davis Kerber American Legion Post Auxiliary, Colfax, Class of 57, and Ladies Stock Club.

Marilyn loved crossword puzzles and gardening. Her greatest love was attending her grandchildren’s games.

John E. “Gene” Short, 88, Fairbury and formerly of Forrest, died at 11:55 a.m. Oct. 29 at Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Fairbury with Fr. Scott Archer officiating.  Burial will be in Forrest Twp. Cemetery, Forrest.

Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury with a rosary to be recited at 3:45 p.m.  The family suggests memorials be given to St. Andrew Catholic Church or Fairview Haven Retirement Community both in Fairbury.

Mr. Short was born June 14, 1928 in Streator, Ill. the son of James Homer and Gertrude Alice Keating Short.  He married Phyllis Elsie Shambrook on June 24, 1950 in Fairbury.  She preceded him in death on Jan. 27, 2005.

Survivors include his children, Mark (Barbara) Short, Thomasboro, Lynn Short, Forrest, Pat (Ken) Marxmiller, Mahomet, Brian (Joellen) Short, Forrest, Lori (Ramiro) Moreno, Santa Ana, Calif., Amy (Paul) Honegger, Forrest., thirteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one brother, Edward Carl Short, Hoffman Lake, Ind.

He is preceded in death by two brothers, George and Donald Short and one sister, Dorothy Kritser.

Mr. Short was a graduate of Forrest High School, and Brown’s Business College majoring in accounting and business.  He worked as an accountant and office manager at Trainor Grain for 45 years.

Mr. Short was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Fairbury and was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus.  He enjoyed traveling and was an avid sports fan who attended many Notre Dame and University of Illinois football games.
