BLOOMINGTON – Members of the United Auto Workers Local 2488 will learn the details of the union’s proposed contract with Mitsubishi Motors on Monday.

According to the union’s Facebook page, a meeting has been scheduled for 5 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

Local 2488 President Rod DeVary told WJBC the meeting will include a question and answer session. A vote on the pact is expected on Wednesday at a site and time yet to be determined.

Terms of the proposed deal haven’t been disclosed.

Officials with Mitsubishi and UAW struck a tentative agreement at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday as the two sides had been negotiating for weeks since July. The automaker announced in August it would be stopping production at its plant in Normal on Nov. 30. The two sides have twice agreed to temporarily extend the current contract which expired on Aug. 28..

About 1,000 UAW members are employed at Mitsubishi.

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
