CORE of McLean, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, is holding their third annual 6.6k (4.1-mile) run/walk to benefit the community of McLean, IL. They are pleased to announce that this year’s race will be on the Lake Run Club Circuit Calendar.
Funds from the past two events will be used to have a Route 66–themed mural painted by the Walldogs artist group on a historic brick building on the village square. Painting will begin on August 17, with projected completion on August 20, giving participants the opportunity to see the artists in action.
Popular bonuses for participants are back, such as the pre-race shot of Funks Grove Pure Maple Syrup (and a commemorative shot glass) and free play at Arcadia: America’s Playable Arcade Museum (located on the village square). The race again starts on the Mother Road just north of the entrance to Funks Grove Pure Maple Syrup and ends near the village square, where food truck Nacho Mama’s and Route 66 icon the Dixie Restaurant will offer tasty brunch options, County Line will provide live music, and Wish Bone Canine Rescue will have adoptable dogs and puppies.
New this year are a classic car show, “route” beer floats in commemorative mugs, and extended hours of celebration with longer food service and music by vocal jazz ensemble SFEA–J-108 into the afternoon. Also, the evening of Friday, August 19, there will be live music by Last Minute Fire and food provided by the Dixie Restaurant and Mt. Hope–Funks Grove Fire Department on the square. Full details are available at www.mclean-il.com.
CORE of McLean is seeking volunteers to help with day-of-race activities as well as businesses who want to increase their visibility and connect with their community by sponsoring this fun event. If interested, please send an email to [email protected].
