BLOOMINGTON – YWCA McLean County is taking steps to increase the amount of sexual assault support groups in the community.
The YWCA is reaching out to various demographics to offer sexual assault support, including (but not limited to) the LGBTQIA community, college students, significant others, and male survivors.
Sexual assault counselor Gaynett Hoskins said one of the most important things for survivors to know is that they aren’t alone.
“I just want people to understand that you’re not by yourself. There are others that experience this, and it’s hard to get in this group – but once you get there, once you get to it and the content and atmosphere of the group, it provides a different level of support,” Hoskins explained.
The group sessions will meet once a week, with locations varying. Sessions are free, but registration and a consultation visit is required prior to the first session. For questions, call (309) 585-3617.
