CLINTON – A few decades ago, there was concern across Central Illinois when Illinois Power built a nuclear plant in Clinton, just a few years after the incident at Pennsylvania’s Three Mile Island nuclear plant.
Some were worried about nuclear power safety, others cost overruns. Now, 30 years after the plant started pumping out power atomic style, the plant’s current owner is throwing a public celebration of the plant’s anniversary.
Exelon is hosting a community open house Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.. Visitors will learn more about the plant and can take a tour of the plant’s control room simulator.
