LaHood: Time might be now for working together on Affordable Care Act reforms

WASHINGTON – Last week’s failed overhaul of the Affordable Care Act deals Republican lawmakers who ran on repeal-and-replace a blow to campaign promises that were made.

U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood, R-Peoria, said he feels there is still unfinished business on the heath care front.

“For me it was a little frustrating to see us get this far to repeal and replace Obamacare and then not be able to get it done,” LaHood said.

LaHood said Republicans and Democrats might be forced to work together to fix problems with the ACA.

“We have an obligation to people to do this and maybe this causes us to work in a bipartisan way to do it, to go back to the drawing board,” LaHood said. “People need relief from the high cost of health care.”

LaHood added U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., is the ultimate maverick and remained so with his deciding vote that effectively killed the bill.
