PONTIAC – Fire destroyed two mobile homes and damaged another in Pontiac on Tuesday.
When Pontiac firefighters arrived at Sandy Creek Estates at about 4:15 p.m., Chief Scott Runyon said it was too late to save the two vacant mobile homes, so they focused on putting out a fire to the third home. Runyon said people living there escaped unharmed.
He said the fire was so intense it melted a gas meter, which further fueled the flames.
Investigators have yet to determine a cause.
Runyon said firefighters were on the scene for about two hours and received assistance from Fairbury, Saunemin, and Cullom fire departments.
