UTICA – Memorial Day weekend usually results in large crowds at Starved Rock State Park, and park officials are asking visitors to monitor social media for parking and traffic updates.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources says temporary parking closures occurred last year during holiday and fall colors weekends. While all parking lots are expected to be open, park staff and conservation police may issue temporary closures when the lots are full.

Alcohol is prohibited on hiking trails and throughout the entire park through May 31. Hikers must stay on trails.

Updates can be found on the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Facebook page and on Twitter (@IllinoisDNR).

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
