A Bloomington Police detective testified Thursday he’s aware of no physical evidence linking ex-State Farm employee Kirk Zimmerman to the shooting death of his former wife, local financial planner Pamela Zimmerman 2 1/2 years ago.
Investigator Scott Mathewson testified during the fourth straight day of pre-trial hearings, also highlighted by the prosecution’s efforts to admit hearsay testimony from some of Mrs. Zimmerman’s friends and clients. They claim she told them she feared for her safety after a tumultuous divorce.
Detective William Lynn testified a video surveillance camera at State Farm headquarters showed a car in the parking lot of Mrs. Zimmerman’s East Washington Street office. The vehicle matched the description of Kirk Zimmerman’s silver 2013 Hyundai Sonata about the time police believe she was shot to death in her office, but a closer-up view became blurry.
Our news partner, WMBD-TV, reported Kirk Zimmerman looked away when crime scene photos of his ex-wife’s body were displayed on the courtroom’s projection screen.
Detective Lynn also described how he processed Mrs. Zimmerman’s cell phone, found near a curb on Robinson Street, on Bloomington’s near-east side.
The judge set two more pre-trial hearings next month, but he’s not yet scheduled the trial.
