BLOOMINGTON – Normal mayoral challenger Marc Tiritilli is far from giving up the fight to unseat incumbent Mayor Chris Koos.
McLean County Clerk Kathy Michael said Monday she plans to honor Tiritilli’s Freedom of Information request to examine voters’ signatures from the remaining 23 precincts that were not reviewed during last week’s discovery recount, and Koos alleged his opponent is unjustly questioning the integrity of the election.
Tiritilli lost by just 11 votes after the April 4 election ballots were counted, and he appeared to lose one more vote during last week’s partial recount of seven polling places.
Tiritilli has until May 25 to ask the court for a full recount.
Now, Tiritilli’s campaign wants to see voters’ signatures when they registered and compare them to signatures on election day. Tiritilli said his review of signatures the seven precincts in the discovery recount revealed “dozens and dozens” of mismatches that might be presented to a judge. The county clerk said Tiritilli will now compare signatures from all polling places.
Koos, writing on Facebook, said his team will continue collecting affidavits from voters to “verify the accuracy of this election.”
Koos told backers the community can take comfort that “election integrity is ingrained in the election processes of McLean County.”
