Pontiac police cleaning up local parks

PONTIAC – Warmer weather surrounding Livingston County brings people clamoring to take part in outdoor activities.

Pontiac Police Chief Jim Woolford said he and his department are working to make those outdoor activities safe for people to take advantage of in the way they were meant to be enjoyed.

“The idea behind that is nuisance elimination. Littering, quality of life issues, people who may be out there using alcohol, drugs, things like that in the park – those are going to be a big concern of ours this year. We would like to replace them with people who want to use the parks for enjoyment, for what they’re intended for,” Woolford said.

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
