CLINTON – Even as some Clinton Nuclear Power Plant employees transfer to other plants, work is moving forward on a bill that could keep the plant from closing next year.
The parent company of the Clinton and Quad-Cities nuclear power plants and electric utilities reached an agreement with Governor Rauner on the Future Energy Jobs Bill.
Brett Nauman is the spokesman for the Clinton plant and is hopeful the bill will be passed.
“With today’s progress we are one step closer to saving thousands of jobs,” said Nauman.
There was an amendment filed that provides cost limits for Illinois energy consumers. The bill has gained support from more than 200 business, labor, environmental, faith based and other groups. The bill also has the support of the Clean Jobs Coalition, which includes the Citizens Utility Board, Natural Resources Defense Council, Sierra Club, Environmental Defense Fund and others.
