NORMAL – Even if your current job and family take up most of your time you still may be able to work on your master’s degree in business administration.

Students with an M.B.A. earn an average of $45,000 more per year than students who graduate with a bachelor’s degree. Illinois State University’s Dr. Timothy Longfellow said the school has a program that accommodates busy students.

“All of the courses are offered in the evening hours, typically 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. one night a week,” Longfellow said. “So that allows people that are working full-time to be able to come back on a part-time basis, work on their M.B.A.’s, and graduate in a timely fashion.”

Longfellow explained what sets ISU’s program apart from others.

“We have a truly outstanding faculty,” said Longfellow. “They are very concerned about their students, very up to date in the business acumen, and are truly outstanding teachers. They love to be in the classroom and share that knowledge and push the student to reach further than the student felt like they could.”

ISU will hold an M.B.A. informational event Tuesday night. Longfellow said faculty and alumni will speak and answer questions.

“We really want to be able to inform those folks that are considering the M.B.A what it’s all about,” Longfellow said. “What the time commitment and family pressures are like, all of those different things that come into play when you go for an M.B.A.”

The session will be held in the State Farm Hall of Business at 6:30 p.m.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

By Mike Matejka Because of COVID, there is no Labor Day Parade this year.  It’s always a great event for our everyday workers to march proudly down the street and enjoys the festive crowd. If there had been a parade, this year’s Labor Day theme was to be “150 years of struggle: your right to vote.” …

Is federal mobilization the answer?

By Mike Matejka As President Donald Trump threatens to send federal marshals into Chicago, over the objections of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
