BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington is looking to install stop lights on Hershey Road where the street intersects with Arrowhead Drive and Clearwater Avenue.

In order to do so, City Manager David Hales said some on-street parking will be eliminated, which will affect roughly nine properties near the intersections. He added the city has a possible solution to make up for the loss of parking spaces.

“As you’ve seen on some of our collector roads we have driveways that are kind of a half-moon, or a half-circular,” said Hales. “That is what’s being proposed for those property owners that would be much more severely impacted by the improvements.”

The city council will discuss the proposal during a special work session Monday night.

“We believe that’s, kind of, a good solution to address both the property owner’s needs as well as to accommodate them with the eventual elimination of that on-street parking,” Hales said.

If the council gives its conceptual approval Monday, Hales said the actual project would likely still not take place until 2016.

Also Monday night, during the council’s regular meeting, aldermen will discuss creating a budget task force committee.
