BLOOMINGTON – The relief effort is underway in Nepal after an earthquake rocked the area last week, killing over 6,000 people and injuring thousands more.

Tricia Burnett with Red Cross of the Heartland says monetary donations are the best way people in Bloomington-Normal can help.

“To get supplies there would be very costly and ineffective,” Burnett said. “And the need varies as the days progress, so financial aid is really the best thing that people can do.”

A special fund has been set up for the Nepal relief effort. Find out more at redcross.org.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
