CHATHAM – Illinois State Police reports a Lincoln woman died in single-vehicle crash in Sangamon County on Wednesday.

Police say a Ford Excursion driven by David Marten, 45, of Lincoln was headed southbound on Interstate 55 about 15 miles south of Springfield at about 1:45 p.m. lost control and left the road, overturning and coming to rest next to a frontage road. The SUV was pulling a travel trailer camper.

A passenger, Talona Marten, 38, had to be extricated from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. The driver and a 3-year-old child were also hospitalized with injuries that aren’t considered life threatening.

Police say charges are pending a crash investigation.

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…
