Jo was born May 20, 1933, in Peoria, the daughter of the late Clarence and Mary Jane (Warren) Crawford. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bill, and sisters, Claire Reeser and Shirley Crawford. Her surviving sister, Marge Ottenheime, resides in Shabbona.
Jo married the love of her life, William R. (Bill) Powell, Sep. 28, 1951. They spent 57 years together prior to his passing in 2008. Their son, Bruce William, passed in 1993; their daughter, Laurie Anne, resides in Normal.
She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Dathan (Abby) Powell of Springfield and Jessica (Chad) Kleinschmidt of Armington, and by great-grandchildren, Finn and Oscar Powell and Kensie and Cooper Kleinschmidt. She has several nieces and nephews; Frank Ottenheime and Norma Jean Graves have stayed close to her through the years.
Jo and Bill enjoyed gardening and had a passion for travel. On one of several trips to England, they became close friends, almost family, with Kate and Alan, who corresponded with them faithfully over the years.
Locally, Jo leaves behind her childhood pal, Bonnie, best friends and walking buddies, Viola, Helen, Ginny, and Marina, dinner buddies, Norma, Betty, Janet, and Grace, and her Scrabble buddy, Linda. She also loved and was loved by four “almost” daughters, Gale, Connie, Cathy, and Marcia. The family thanks all of these ladies for being a part of her life and helping her in countless ways.
The family also wishes to thank the loving and caring staff at Heritage Healthcare for all they did in Jo’s final days.
