NORMAL – The dog flu is causing the cancellation of the Pooch Parade in uptown Normal for the second year in a row.
Marketing director for uptown Normal Joe Tulley said the event was scheduled for May 21st. The worry over dogs becoming sick led to the cancellation.
Eastland Companion Animal Hospital will offer the flu vaccine and provide information about canine influenza on Saturday, May 21st from 1pm-3pm in Uptown Normal. Vaccinations will be available for a fee of $50.00 and a portion of proceeds will benefit animal rescue in McLean County.
The $50 covers both the first dose given May 21st and the booster dose given 2 to 4 weeks later. No appointment is needed on May 21st in Uptown Normal.
Tulley says uptown organizers will make a decision about moving the pooch parade to a different time in the future.
