BLOOMINGTON – The Bloomington Fire Department is asking residents to ensure their homes have carbon monoxide detectors installed after an incident sent two people to the hospital this weekend.
Paramedics arrived at the resident’s home to find two victims reacting badly to high levels of carbon monoxide.
“One of them fell. Both patients were feeling tired and wanted to sleep,” said Public Information Office Stuart Blade. “Another patient was, during the transport was, just tired during transport.”
Both victims survived the incident after being administered high flow oxygen. The cause of the carbon monoxide was found to be a faulty furnace.
“It (carbon monoxide) is odorless. It is tasteless. You cannot see this. It was what they call a ‘silent killer.’ A carbon monoxide alarm is the only way to detect this in your home,” Blade said.
Blade added a detector for the gas comes at a minimal cost.
