Bloomington, Normal police officers to host Coffee With A Cop

BLOOMINGTON – The next Coffee With A Cop session will be held Friday at Coffee Hound in downtown Bloomington.

Bloomington Police spokeswoman Sara Mayer said the event helps break down barriers between cops and the public.

“People might not always feel comfortable bringing up issues or maybe they have questions about law enforcement,” Mayer said. “Once we actually sit down and talk with each other, they learn that we’re people too. We’re their neighbors, church members, parents. It helps build a bond and establish that relationship that makes our community stronger.”

Coffee Hound is providing free coffee for the event, which runs from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. Officers from the Bloomington and Normal Police Departments will be in attendance.
