BLOOMINGTON – Illinois State University student Benjamin Allison, 20, of Crystal Lake has died after being the victim in a weekend hit-and-run incident in Normal.
McLean County Coroner Kathleen Davis said Allison died at 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday. Allison was found just before 9 a.m. on Saturday on a crosswalk at the intersection of College Avenue and Fell Avenue.
Allison was a communications major and a member of the student run radio station, WZND. He is an organ donor through the Gift of Hope program.
Joshua Dunn, 21, another ISU student, has been charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an injury accident in relation to the incident.
In a letter to students, faculty and staff on Tuesday ISU President Larry Dietz said "today is a sad day for the Illinois State University family as we mourn the loss of a student, Benjamin Allison.
"He will be greatly missed by his classmates, friends and his second family at WZND."
Davis said an autopsy has been scheduled. The incident remains under investigation by the coroner's office and the Normal Police Department.
