BLOOMINGTON – While you are getting your Christmas shopping done, state health officials are encouraging Illinoisans to shop around the state's new health insurance marketplace.

Get Covered Illinois will have a counselor on hand at the McLean County Health Department in Bloomington on Monday, the final day to enroll or re-enroll to have insurance by Jan 1. Director of Outreach and Consumer Education Brian Gorman told WJBC's Scott Laughlin, even if you enrolled last year, you might be able to find a better deal.

"You may end up saving $5 or $10, each month of maybe the doctor or hospital in your plan had migrated," Gorman said. "There are changes from one year to the next."

The number of insurance plans has more than doubled from last year to more than 400.

Get Covered Illinois will have in-person assistance available on Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The open enrollment period for 2015 will run through Feb. 15.

More information is available at www.GetCoveredIllinois.gov or by calling (866) 311-1119.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
