BLOOMINGTON – Busey Bank has some advice for citizens after a warning from the Illinois Attorney General this week regarding credit card scammers.
The scammers are attempting to obtain personal information by calling consumers.
“Your bank is just never going to do that,” said Busey Senior Vice President Todd Anderson. “Don’t give your account number to anyone on the phone, unless you’ve made the call to the company.”
Anderson explained he hasn’t necessarily noticed a rise in scams recently, but added they do seem to come in waves. He offered some other advice for avoiding scams.
“It’s always a good idea to save your receipts and then go ahead and compare those with your statements when you get those from your financial institution,” said Anderson. “Open your bills promptly.”
Anderson said if you believe you’ve been the victim of a scam to contact you bank and the police.
