BLOOMINGTON – Fire officials say a blaze caused $200,000 in damages to a home at 413 Lakeshore Circle on Tuesday night and $35,000 in damages to a neighboring home, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Bloomington Fire Deputy Chief Les Siron said the fire started on the east side of the house around the enclosure to the fireplace, though the fireplace was not in use at the time of the fire.
Occupants of the home say they heard a loud noise and the owner went outside to find a large fire on the east end of the house. The family of five escaped unhurt. Heat from the fire ignited the wood siding of the neighboring home.
One Bloomington firefighter sustained a minor injury when a large piece of drywall fell from the ceiling and struck him. Fire crews from Normal assisted in battling the blaze.
