TAYLORVILLE – U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis is urging colleges and universities to avoid the temptation to raise tuition to the point where they price some students out of the system.

“I have voted to increase Pell grants but I always say what are you doing to make that Pell grant go further,” Davis said.

PODCAST: Listen to Davis’ interview with Scott and Colleen here.

Davis is one of eight members of Congress who serves on the White House’s bipartisan Higher Education Advisory Committee. The Taylorville Republican told Scott Laughlin the huge buyouts given to departing college administrators, most recently at the University and the College of DuPage, which has caused some alarm will soon stop because all the negative attention those schools have received.

Davis said the U of I has already moved to reign in those large buyouts, when its new president Timothy Killeen asked the escalator clause by removed from his contract.

“I think that’s a good first step if the new president is willing to make that step,” Davis said. “Then I think you look ahead to future contracts and make sure not to include those,”

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
