BLOOMINGTON – Illinois State University is looking for a nominee to receive an honorary degree.
The honor recognizes the achievements of someone affiliated with the university. Nominations are being accepted through Sept. 15. Interim Associate Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies John Baur explained what should be included in a nomination letter.
“Any supporting materials are really helpful,” Baur said. “Sometimes we get nominations that are just a letter with very little context such as their works or a news article or something. So any kind of related information that would help the committee make the recommendation would be really helpful.”
Baur said the degree will be awarded at the school’s Founder’s Day Celebration on Feb. 18.
“It’s a great way to have them come back and see how far ISU and the area has come since they attended.”
Baur explained what receiving the degree truly means.
“I think the purpose is to recognize these people for their distinction and their accomplishments,” said Baur. “A lot of times it’s somebody that has an affiliation with ISU as a way to sort of recognize those people for their distinction in their field.”
Nominations can be submitted via email to [email protected] or mailed to ISU’s Graduate School.
