SPRINGFIELD – The state is launching a new $42 million water assistance program for low-income Illinoisans.
The effort is for those facing disconnection or who have $250 or more in overdue water and sewer bills. Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Acting Director Sylvia Garcia says to qualify, applicants need to be making 200 percent of the poverty level or less.
“So, for a family of four this means that if your monthly incomes is less than $4,417, or your annual income is less than $53,000, you are eligibile for this water assistance program and the many other programs that are part of Help Illinois Families.”
Applications for water assistance and other programs are available online at HelpIllinoisFamilies.com.
