NORMAL – Classes at Illinois State University start in less than two weeks and some students have started making their way back to campus.
ISU students and staff are required to input their vaccine information online. Those who are unvaccinated will be required to participate in weekly on-campus saliva-based COVID-19 testing.
The university is also following the latest CDC guidance requiring masks in public indoor spaces, regardless of vaccination status.
After ISU saw a large number of positive coronavirus cases last fall, some community members are worried that might happen again. ISU President Dr. Teri Goss Kinzy spoke with WJBC’s Scott Miller.

“So I’d say we have a very strong program in educating our students and we are working very hard to educate our students about responsible behavior and vaccines,” said Kinzy.
“I’m going to give our students a little bit of grace because they weren’t initially eligible to receive the vaccine, it’s a two shot series, then they were going home. But we are seeing a really significant uptick in the number of students that are submitting their vaccine information to us.”
Classes at ISU start on August 16.
