BLOOMINGTON – Due to the warm temperatures, Corn Belt Energy is asking customers to voluntarily reduce their electricity usage from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday.
“By helping to reduce electricity used during a few critical hours, when the most people are using electricity all at the same time, Corn Belt Energy members are helping to keep demand charges down and thus help keep our rates lower,” the company said in a news release.
Here are a few ways to reduce your energy use:
- Turn off your air conditioner
- Adjust the thermostat up a few degrees
- Delay use of large appliances such as dishwashers, washers, dryers, electric stoves
- Unplug small appliances
- Turn off all unnecessary lights
- Shut off your pool pump
- Shut off your hot tub
- Limit lawn watering during this time
- Turn off irrigation system
- Delay charging your EV
- Unplug gaming systems or TVs
- Shut off and unplug dehumidifiers
- Keep garage door closed
- Close curtains/blinds if it is sunny
