SPRINGFIELD – The recreational cannabis market will soon expand to include more retailers. Under a bill sent to Gov. JB Pritzker Friday, the newcomers will be from communities, as the state’s cannabis program puts it, “disproportionately impacted by the war on drugs.”
State Rep. Jehan Gordon Booth (D-Peoria), one of the sponsors, says Illinois’ market has grown to nearly $1 billion, with plenty of opportunity for the applicants to succeed.
Pritzker said in a statement he looks forward to signing the bill.
HB 1443 awaits the governor’s action.
