NORMAL – Monday afternoon, the Normal town clerk swore in 18-year Mayor Chris Koos and three council members.
Each person sworn in had been a returning member.
Each member’s ceremony was 30 minutes apart so their families could join them and maintain a social distance.
Four-year Council Member Chemberly Cummings said she was ready to take her past experience and build a stronger trust with community members.
“They can trust the decisions we’re making are the best for all of our residents and that we try to look at the bigger picture for the future as well, and that we’re trying to be as much forward thinking as possible,” said Cummings.
Cummings said she looked forward to progress to be made with Rivian Automotive and equitable housing in the community.
Cummings, first elected in 2017, is Normal’s first African-American to serve on the town council.
Also sworn into office for four-year terms were incumbents Kevin McCarthy and Scott Preston.
