SPRINGFIELD – Depending on whom you believe, life would be easier if we were on Standard Time, or Daylight Saving Time, year-round.
An Illinois House committee heard support for both proposals but took no vote. State Rep. Tim Butler (R-Springfield) says he prefers the early sunrises and early sunsets of Standard Time, which is observed only four months a year. He says research shows it’s healthier. State Rep. Mike Zalewski (D-Riverside) says Daylight Saving Time, when it’s light later into the evening, would promote commerce.
And State Rep. Bob Morgan (D-Deerfield) says people like him – a parent of young children – would rather see Daylight Saving Time year-round.
