BLOOMINGTON – Reckless homicide charges filed after the death of a McLean County road worker last June allege the driver had taken a muscle relaxer before the fatal crash.
Laborers Local 362 honored Larry Williams, 59, on Wednesday as part of Workers’ Memorial Day ceremonies in the Twin-Cities.
Williams was a flag man in a construction zone on Route 24 near Ford Street in Gridley when a vehicle struck him on June 9, 2020.
In January, McLean County prosecutors charged the driver, Abuelsood K. Juma, with three felony counts of reckless homicide.
The charges allege Juma was driving too fast in the construction zone, and that he was feeling the effects of cyclobenzaprine, which is a muscle relaxer.
Juma posted a $5,000 cash bond and was released January 22 from the McLean County Jail. He’s been ordered to appear for a status hearing May 6.
