NORMAL – An Illinois Wesleyan University fraternity is suspended after a student was hurt in a hazing incident.
It happened at the Sigma Chi Fraternity House April 10th, and a freshman in the new membership class was hurt.
A spokesperson for the school said the student’s injury was treated and he’s now back to class.
The University suspended all Sigma Chi operations as an investigation has been launched due to the individual and chapter violations of the student code of conduct.
Karla Carney-Hall, PhD Dean of Students said, “Hazing is reprehensible, unacceptable and contrary to our campus values. We do not condone hazing and our investigation will examine individual incidents as well as any culture of hazing. All of our student organizations, teams and campus experiences must embrace positive leadership development and community building and refuse to allow abusive, outdated rites of passage to shape our organizations.”
