Normal looking to approve new county health center

NORMAL – The Normal Town Council will vote Monday night on giving its approval to McLean County as it prepares to build a new healthcare facility.

City Manager Mark Peterson said the property the county has designated is in Normal, but is county-owned. Normal simply needs to give its approval.

“They have the right to do with that property what they chose,” said Peterson. “There’s a requirement, apparently, by the Public Building Commission that the Town of Normal endorse that site and so we have included a resolution on our agenda that actually requires six votes out of the seven.”

The property is in North Normal, just off Main Street.

“What they’re proposing is consistent with what’s always been there: health related facilities. They’re going to be removing a large and older building on the site, and building a new federally qualified health center that will serve the needs of the community.”

Peterson said the project is entirely county driven and requires no financial commitment from the town.
