BLOOMINGTON – Municipal elections are less than a month away and Bloomington Mayor Tari Renner has some advice for the city’s next leader.
“If you think you’ve got think skin, you need to grow rhino hide,” Renner told WJBC’s Scott Miller. “That is really what it takes to enjoy your time as mayor. If you make a mistake you acknowledge it, try not to do it again, and move on.”
Renner, who has been mayor of Bloomington since 2013, is not seeking a third term. The city’s mayoral candidates include Mboka Mwilambwe, Jackie Gunderson, and Mike Straza.
“There is always going to be a lot of criticism. If you expect things to be fair you are in the wrong business because it ain’t always going to be fair,” added Renner. “That is what I would say to whoever wins, and we will see.”
The election is on April 6.
