BLOOMINGTON – It wasn’t a typical Bloomington City Council meeting earlier this week. Mayor Tari Renner addressed some public comments, breaking from the usual protocol of not responding.
Renner called claims by conservative blogger Diane Benjamin and Edgar County Watchdogs “garbage” and “outrageous nonsense.” He spoke Wednesday with WJBC’s Scott Miller.

“Once again, most outrageous kinds of accusations, so enough is enough,” said Renner. “Especially when somebody is in the sense calling into question the integrity of the entire upper management of our city. My city manager, deputy city manager, police chief, the police force. This is just nonsense.”
According to our news partner HOI ABC, Benjamin and Watchdogs co-founder Kirk Allen initially addressed the council in September 2019, claiming a Bloomington police officer fabricated evidence, but was allowed to resign.
No criminal charges were filed against the officer, and Renner said there’s no cover-up.
