NORMAL – The railroad quiet zone in Normal is temporarily suspended while crews continue to repair damage from the train derailment earlier this month.
The Federal Railroad Administration, Illinois Commerce Commission, and the Illinois and U.S. Departments of Transportation are requiring train horns between railroad switches from Fort Jesse to Fell.
“We wanted to let residents know that will be continuing for the period of time while the reconstruction is underway,” said the town’s communications director Cathy Oloffson. “Once that is complete, the quite zone will go back into effect.”
Oloffson says repairs are estimated to take several weeks. The town established a railroad quiet zone in January 2018.
