SPRINGFIELD – Sex education has come a long way since the days of “the birds and the bees.”
The REACH Act – Responsible Education for Adolescent and Children’s Health – is billed as a wide-ranging personal health and safety curriculum that includes LGBTQ information. Myles Brady Davis of Equality Illinois can identify.
“The REACH Act would ensure all youth in all grades in Illinois public schools are provided with inclusive, comprehensive, medically accurate, and age-appropriate personal health and safety education,” Davis said during an online news conference hosted by Planned Parenthood of Illinois.
“The REACH Act is the result of years of outreach and engagement with partners from across the state, including LGBTQ students in Carbondale, Springfield, and dozens of other community organizations.”
Davis says in 1986, he came out as trans. He was five. Lawmakers are re-introducing the bill this year.
